Courtney Christian School loves to see its alumni back on campus and earlier this month had the pleasure of welcoming Ryan Hoover from the class of 2019. Ryan, now a senior at St. Thomas, wasn’t alone – he brought with him three new “buddy benches,” which he designed and built as part of his Eagle Scout Project. Ryan plans to finish the requirements to become an Eagle Scout, the highest achievement attainable in the Boy Scouts of America program, in May.
“I chose Courtney Christian School to be the beneficiary of this project because the school was so good to me,” said Ryan.
Ryan decided to build the “buddy benches” for early childhood students to sit, talk and get to know each other. If a student feels alone, they can sit on the bench and be noticed by other students, possibly creating a new friendship. Ryan also made five new planted pots that will sit outside each early childhood classroom, greeting students each day and allowing them to learn about watering and taking care of the plants as well as conservation of the earth, which is very important in scouting.
